"Updated Review – Based on My Experience as a Homeowner
Several years ago I left a positive review for this State Farm office after they helped me save a little money on my auto insurance. At the time, I only had auto coverage with them and had not yet purchased a home. Unfortunately, after our recent experience with our homeowners policy, I feel obligated to update my review.
When my husband and I bought our home, we chose to insure it through this office because we believed we were working with a trusted agent who would help make sure we had appropriate coverage. We relied on their expertise when setting up our homeowners policy.
Recently, our basement flooded due to a plumbing issue. What followed was one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I have ever had with any company.
When we reported the flooding, no one from State Farm or this office contacted us to provide guidance on next steps or referrals for mitigation, restoration, or plumbing services. We were left scrambling to research and coordinate everything ourselves while dealing with a flooded basement.
After waiting about three weeks, the adjuster came to inspect the damage. The inspection lasted roughly ten minutes and the adjuster informed us that the claim would be denied. When I asked about next steps or whether there was any type of review or appeal process, I was told there was not.
To make matters more frustrating, the adjuster mentioned that there is a specific policy endorsement that would have covered this type of incident—but we did not have it. From what I understand, this endorsement would likely have only minimally increased our premium. It was never discussed with us when our policy was set up, despite the fact that guidance on appropriate coverage is exactly why people work with insurance agents in the first place.
We are now facing thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket repairs.
After sharing this experience with the office, the agent who originally signed us up didn’t even respond to my email. Instead, the response was passed off to another staff member. After years of being a loyal customer, that lack of accountability was incredibly disappointing.
Based on how this claim and the surrounding communication were handled, I would strongly caution anyone considering insurance through this office."
